I did a search for dateme.com and of course, it was taken. If you've ever done a search for a domain name to see if it's available, you'll often be offered alternative forms of the domains, including different extensions such as .net, .org, .ws.

If you know anything about SEO, then you probably know that any of the extensions beyond the com, net and org extensions is pretty much hard to break into a market with. At the time, my reseller newsletter (yes, I am a domain reseller) announced some new country extensions, so out of curiosity I searched for dateme with one of the new country extensions. To my surprise, the domain was available and I bought it thinking that I would use it as my own personal dating profile since I was very disappointed having used paid and free membership dating sites. Somehow, in this quick thinking, I had dismissed that it was an international domain.

At the time, I was very single. I have since then reunited into a wonderful relationship. When I looked at my domain portfolio, that particular domain was a total eye sore. I hated the idea of having spent money, which seems to be in short supply lately, on a domain that I would never use. Even if I were unattached, having an international extension would be difficult to market regionally - not to mention regulations that go along with international domains.

I started thinking of other ways that I could use the site. I really don't know much about the country the domain is registered for and I was having a real hard time trying to determine how to use the domain according to regulations. Just as I thought I was going to have to sell it and try to at least make back my registration fee, it occurred to me that while I may not know anything about the country - I do know about dating, being single and over 35.

Even though I may have never been to that country, I do know what it is like trying to meet new people for dating. I also know the headaches involved with many of the online dating sites. Personally, I felt many were just too big and even though you can filter out the results, I didn't want to have to spend my time filtering. So it occurred to me, why not start my own dating site for that country and narrow the results to singles over the age of 35.

And that brings me to today. I've been wanting to share my dating stories, experiences and lessons for a while now. And boy, do I have some stuff to share! This blog is my journey with dating - as a participant and facilitator.
